your definitely going in the right direction. the center of the flower is a little too centered in the image here. if it were offset a bit it would be more interesting. you have some nice texture. i happen to like the depth of field, to me it adds interest and movement and draws you into the flower. the only other thing i would do is to play with levels a bit, the color is a bit flat here, a very good effort though.

Thank you for your suggestions and ideas, I will definitely keep it in mind for the future. I recropped and played with the first picture. Is this any better? or did I make it worse?

i prefer the composition of the 2nd image.. but i think your white balance is still off.. keep playing with the colors on that one..
