My only complaint about your picture is that there seems to be enough distance between the plant and the background for you to have used a shorter depth of field. In my opinion you should have used a wider F-stop. According to the EXIF data you used f-5.7. The background is too much of a distraction and corrupts the actual flower and delicate parts sticking out from it. Also it seems there is someone standing behind a fence wearing a blue shirt. It might be something else but its too visible. Otherwise its an interesting flower.

thanks bynx for your comments.

Couldn't change the f-stop for the camera as the camera does not allow for that even in manual mode. (Just a consumer P&S Digicam - IXUS 750)

I don't know how you say a person wearing a blue shirt as I'm sure there's no one there. It may be the sky however.

Anyway thanks for your advice. will remember it when I shoot with my dSLR in the future.

Any others please??

I thkn this shot would sit a harder contrast and saturation to really get the subject to pop from the backing. Maybe even some type of angles tight crop.

its a very interesting subject.

Another shot taken from the same area but this time from an Orchid Show in the nearby Lake Gardens.

Note: Take on the same P&S Canon Digital IXUS 750

straight out of the camera WITHOUT PP

PleaseC & C and share your opinions or suggestions.

Thanks again

Using just a P&S camera both pics are very well done. Good exposure on the second one as well, all things considered. The flower is just right and the overexposed background light is not important to the shot in my opinion but actually helps contrast the nice color of the flower. Good job.
