This is my 1st post in this forum. Picture taken last summer, spur of the moment, just before I put the little guy back in the water.

Constructive comments welcomed. This is something I enjoy looking at in the dead of winter.

I think the "Red Eye" removal feature of photoshop would be of a big help to this shot :lol:

What I was thinking too is how cool (or not) it would be if you could clone out that hand and just have the fish in mid air. As if jumping out of the water. Don't know if it would work or not.

OK... Well the next time you hold up a catch find a different
color background. This fish normally has "Red Eyes" right?
If so it wouldn't make sense to remove it.

The photo is a documentation snapshot.
This might not be the best forum for this type of picture.
But Steve has all kinds of forums here.

Now I am confused, someone, don't rememeber who said fish have green eyes so where are the red eyes coming from. Thanks Jaki.

Folks, didn't mean to confuse some of you with this pic.

The fish is a rock bass, sometimes known as a red eye, because of its red eyes.

Some fish have red eyes, others have black, etc.

Good feedback about the background, I could have used the lake as the background instead of gettingn the green of the fish get "lost" inthe green of the trees.

The actual photo looks better (to me) in its larger size, as compared to what I had to downsize it to in order to fit this site.

Not sure what is meant by"documentation" photo. Thispic was not taken as a proof of fish caught. I simpy enjoyed the way it looked, the way the sun reflected off its scales, theway it glistened, its red eye, andnature in the background (blue sky, green trees and water that reflects a bit of both).

No confusion here. I think Most people understand that it is called a redeye, and the subsequent jokes based on the that.

Now as for documentation shot, that goes to the artistic merits of the photo. As for technique, the shot has fine focus, exposure and DOF for what it is. As for the artistic side though, there isnt really anything that makes this anything other than a guy holding fish in front of his camera. (for me anyway, art is subjective though) The subject is centered, there is chopped off arm poking in the frame, no drama/mood (play of shadows or light, selective focus/DOF, odd angles are things that can get this)

so keep on shooting and enjoy
