I have no idea what the tape is there for. I am rather disappointed by this shot when I see it this small. Women, especially, often stop, admire and run their hands across this photograph as a 8.5" by 11" in my portfolio.
It definitely lacks impact in this media!!! lol |

Your subject is having such a wonderful time! I can make a guess as to what the duct tape is being used for. I would guess that the horse has some type of hoof problem (abscess, cut or some other problem) and duct tapeis an inexpensive way of keeping dirt out of whatever is wrong or medicine on it. They make rubber boots for the same thing, but they cost more and probably wouldn't stay on as well (though the duct tape would be temporary). Even at this small size, I really like this picture!
