G'day all
In the great land downunder, we're coming into the summer, hot season where bushfires become common - and we had one yesterday about 10km away from us. Lots of sirens and helecopter activity in the area, [not a place for spectators either] and lots of beautiful sunset images as well Here's a couple 1- 90 minutes before sunset, this pelican was doing what pelicans do - swimming patiently around the shallows looking for a feed ![]() exif= Fuji X-s1; [email protected] [eq]; 1/1700s x f8,0; iso-400; ex camera - no filters, no pp 2- sunset is now only 10 minutes away ![]() exif= Fuji X-s1; [email protected] [eq]; 1/350s x f7,1; iso-400; image ex camera, no filters, no pp 3- the last minute or two before sunset ![]() exif- Fuji X-s1; [email protected] [eq]; 1/420s x f5,0; iso-200 - no filters, no pp - image is ex-camera As always, comments welcome Regards, Phil

The first shot looks amazing. It took me a second to realize it is water!
A little too much of the red below the bird. I think another pelican near the bottom of that photo would have been nice ![]() |

Really like the first shot. Is the red color caused from the brush fire or a really red sunset?

G'day Cal

The sun was coming thru the red smokey clouds from a bushfire only 8-10km away, so the clouds were still full of colour themselves Regards, Phil

Phil, I liked the third shot; mainly for the sky. The Pelican shot was just too much water. Would have been nice to see this more compact and sharper. The sun and pines(Norfolk?) was just too tough a challenge to get it right, mainly due to the wide variance in the light.

first one is the best. really great interpretation of water/fire. doesn't look like water at all. Id crop out the shoreline and have a more square crop.
The rest are nice, but they lack that something to make them stand out like the first one. Nice job. |

Thanks Fintan for your latest viewing & feedback
Would you consider these 2 crops to be more 'visually appealing'? 1- ![]() 2- ![]() Whichever way it goes - thanks for the suggestions ![]() Regards, Phil

definately better crops there. for the first one, i feel a square crop, but dont crop it so the Pelican is too large. His proportions are perfect in the first post, just the rectangular crop doesnt feel right. have the pelican that size, but in a square crop and i think it would be pretty awesome.
2nd image looks better with that crop, but the image to me seems a bit busy. just my opinion though, and opinions are all relative. Good work. |
