Here is a picture I took using my Canon 20D, Canon 75-300mm lens, and a sunpak flash. Is there any way I can make this any better? I could not speed up my shutter anymore because of the flash. I notice so many birds in the forum that you can count the feathers on and I would love to learn how to get that type of result. I my be limited by my lens. What do you think I can do to make this picture better or shoot differently to get better results?

I can adjust my ISO to get more shutter but 5.6f is the limit of my lens.
I think 250 shutter is as fast as I can go on my flash too? |

RP33.....
Unless you have specialized strobes you will never get a really good stop action shot of a humming bird with a regular flash....I dont know why you would want to try a flash in the first place....You are right about limits on shutter speeds and fstops using a regular flash...You just wont get the right combo to freeze the wings on that little guy...My suggestion would be to move the feeder so you can shoot the shot without a flash...That way you can have your shutter speed high enough to freeze the motion without blur... :| |

Does the Canon 20D not have HSS capabilities?
