~Shot this on the beach in Ocean City, N.J. Used the 70-200 f4L, and shot in RAW. Does the B/W conversion work? I tried bringing out the wave lines. More contrast?~

i like the patterns here as well.. did you get any from a lower perspective.. that could help you emphasize the patterns even more... still, nice eye!

To get the most contrast out of a situation like this, you need to be there when the sun is lowest in the sky, just after sunrise or just before sunset. At that point, the shadows are longest, emphasising the lines alot more.

Another point that I get told over and over is, if I'm going to do pattern shots, always try include something to break the pattern. For example, if there were a crab or a plant or a piece of dirftwood in the bottom right corner, it would make a far stronger picture.

Btw - In no way am I saying this isn't already a great pic, I was just offering ways of improving it.
