Straight from the camera except for downsizing with Irfanview (no room for cropping with this one, as I framed it pretty tight). Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D shooting wide open at f/2 with a Minolta 100mm f/2
Warm it up and increase the contrast, or leave it as is when I convert the raw file later (I was shooting raw + jpeg)? Comments Welcome ![]() |

Been trying to decide on this one Jim. It's nice as is, but could see warming it up a little. I think if trying to keep a snapshot ofthe momentto show an early morning fishing trip, I would keep it as is. I like the concentration and focus on the task at hand being delivered in this picture. I also think the first shot of the kid you titled "Thread" is a great picture of concentration and focus too.
Just curious, How's the fishing down there? What kind of fishing were they doing? Bait Casting, Spinning or fly? LT P/S - I just saw the pictures in the Members and family pictures forum, and can now see the type of fishing done. ![]() |

hi Jim I think this is a good shot, but agree with lt7 it could do with a little warming up, the concentration on his face while tying the fly is awsome.

OK...
Here's an attempt at warming it up just a little bit. I started from scratch with the raw file and tweaked it just a tad (the first image was a straight from the camera jpeg except for downsizing). Better or worse? |

Yeah, I really like the warmed-up version. The skin tone looks just right on this one. Great capture.

I'd like to print this one and give it to my brother-in-law (the subject) and sister. But, I framed it too tight to crop it for the right aspect ratio for an 8x10" print (or any size that's not a multiple of 3:2).
Grrrrrrr I seem to go from one extreme to the other (not tight enough, or too tight for cropping). I spend too much time in front of this computer and not enough time shooting. :-) I guess I could just add a border to it before printing so that it will fit OK after adjusting for an 8x10" aspect ratio (most of their framed prints are 8x10" so I'd like it to be the same size). I appreciate the comments and suggestions made. Thanks. |
