This is a bit unusual but leave a comment, good, bad, or indifferent. The story with this skull is it was uncovered during a basement excavation. After being examined by a coroner it was returned. The interesting thing about this skull is the person had a head operation (trepanation) and the skull piece grew back leaving that crescent shaped hole in the skull. This means the individual lived for quite some time after the operation. And the stranger thing is the person died in the 1600's. The other artifacts have a relation to the individual. They are from the top left clockwise 3 clay pipe bowls and a stone effigy from a stone pipe. The head has a bear head on top. All circa 1600s.

I cheated...sorry. I feel I'm in no way experienced enough to comment on the picture itself other then I like it.

I also find it interesting when discoverieslike this are made...it's like opening a window into the past.

Okay, I confess. I cheated too. Great collage! Actually I wish I had found any of the items anywhere! There is evidence that ancient civilizations preformed forms of brain surgery. And evidence that many survived the procedure, as is the case with this skull. I would imagine the "patient" was quite subdued afterwards. I was planning to write more, but frankly, looking at it is giving me a splitting headache.

I had easy access. Some of the pipes I dug up myself and the archaeologist is a good friend of mine.
