Oops...... looks like this will be a shot post then :blah:

I personally like number 2 as the reflection makes the image. Great exposure with something that can be a bit of a pain due to all the white and water reflections.

The first one is not quite as strong only due to the missing tail feathers. I think it would have worked if a little more was missing or if there were all there. What length lens are you using on this as the small dof is really good and notice that you are using f8?

As for the dog well it looks like you just got your fingers bitten lol.

Hope to see more of your work in the photos sections and advice/info for all of us who want to learn more.

mark,
problem with the first shot is that it's a full frame resize. the gull was about 15 feet away and my 300mm focuses to 13 feet at it closest. i' ve one in landscape mode but i think it also cuts off part of the tail. haven't processed all the shots..

I guessed that as I didn't think you cropped it, was just a shame that's all.

I love the second one! Excellent! And I had to laugh at Mark's comment the first thing I thought when I saw the dog was you had just had your finger chompped on

Roy, the second gull picture is a great shot. The puppy picture could do with a little crop to get rid of the flash shadow at the bottom. I tried a quick crop (keeping the 3:2 ratio), just to see what you think.

Just my opinion, but I don't mind the shadow from the flash - I think it accents the hand and the puppy. This is one of the cases when the flash characteristics don't bother me (I've never managed to figure flash photography out at all).
