Grabbed this shot of Chicago's famous State Street and the Marshall Field clock just before Christmas. Didn't have my tripod so I just propped the camera against the building and hoped for the best. (Wish it was a bit sharper)

Any way to avoid the "hot" spots of the street lights next time? Bracketing maybe, or just dodge and burn in Photoshop?

Also, is there a trick to avoid the yellowish cast to night time photos?

Thanks

This is a great shot, considering you didn't have a tripod. I think the only way you can get a better effect is by using a tripod, higher DOF, and a longer shutter speed to blur the people. Just wait for a great day next to plan at Christmas, have your tripod, and I'm sure you get a stunning photograph.

Its a great photo.

You can manually set your white balance or do a colorcast in PSE.

i like this shot

i think there is huge potential here

i find the ppl in the foreground really distracting so would suggest cloning them out. i would also be interested to see this shot with perspective correction right teh way up to frame the shot up symmetrically. Exp and sharpness is good for no tripod so well done

finally i much rather prefer the yelow cast. gives the shot that warmer street light look. the neutralised shot looks very cold.
