I first uploaded this shot to the wildlife forum witch is probably the wrong place for it. I really didn't know what to do with it. I think here is a better place to post the picture. I would really like some honest reactions and comment on this shot.
It was taken in the early morning sun on the coast of Northern California. There were three rescued Belgian horse staying across the road from our motel. I happened to see this one sunning just as I was heading to breakfast. I grabbed my Tamron 200-500mm lens and shot this at full telephoto. The horse was about 300 yards away. I really wasn't expecting much, until I saw the print. I was quite please but, would like other opinions.
Please feel free to C&C
Thanks,
Steve

Only thing I can say is GREAT SHOT!
I like the whole thing.
Supported or hand held?

Thank you for the compliment. The camera was mounted on a Gitzo 1325 tripod and I used a cable release to minimize any shake. I only wish I were steady enough to hand hold a shot like this.
Thanks again,
Steve

Hi Wagaboo, I wish there was a secret to this shot but the fact is it was just pure luck.

It was around 9am on the Calif North Coast. I saw this horse about 250-300 yards away sunning in the morning warmth. I pulled out my Nikon D80 with my Tamron 200-500mm lens, set it on my tripod, extended the lens to the full 500mm and using my cabled remote started clicking away. At that distance I wasn't really expecting much. I was fabbergasted when I started viewing the results. This image is just slightly adjusted for contrast and some minimal sharpening. I have included the straight out of the camera picture for comparison below
.
Thanks for viewing and I wish I could tell you how to duplicate the effect but, I have no idea unless you can exactly reproduce the time, sun conditions, atmosphic density, star alignment and cosmic harmony, I don't have a clue.
Cheers,
Steve

That is an amazing shot. It looks like a picture from a fairy tale.

Thanks, I was my original thought the first time I saw the shot. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

The first impression of your edited version is of a painting. Dynamite shot.
