I'm curious about this one. Took italmost by accident at the end of the4 night and I like it a lot. Despite that, I think it could be better. Tell me how and how to do it.

Thanks.

JG

I like the feel of this one but agree if you had the opportunity to go again then there are things I would try.

One of the great parts of the shot is the light through the glass but unfortunately it has been cropped. Another area to check out is the glass behind the main one, that is a bit of a distraction.

OK, framing, what could be done.....? To start with you have done a good job with the height you shot from, looking almost across the bar. I would look at theever popularrule of thirds, but I think also a vertical crop in tight on the glass and the light. This is the sort of thing I was thinking of as a starting point.

One thing I notice is the nice straight diagonal lineof glasses behind.... always use things like that as they can add interest in backgrounds especially as they add to the story of the bar. It is finding the balance between a distraction and an addition.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Mark.

I like your second crop a lot.It keeps the blue glasses in the picture which you point out is a good addition. The vertical crop just feels constrained to me. Dunno, maybe I'm nuts.

Thanks for the comments. I'm gonna try this again with your suggestions. Now watch me not get these colors ever again.

BTW, been playing with the 430EX some. Cannot believe the power of that thing. If you would whenever you can, please take a run over to pbase

and give me some feedback on the "Flash Tests" in the "Canon S5 gallery". Curious to see what you think of the different bounces.

Thanks again.

You're welcome.

Yes the 430 has quite a bit of guts.... the 580 is even better but still noting compared to some of the bad boy units out there LOL.

Checked out the flash shots, there is not a lot that I can really add to them but I think for you it is very helpful to see what the shadows are doing, especially looking at the lectern in the middle.

You have some good stuff in there so keep it up.

As for never getting the same lighting again, just be aware of what light you have around.

I was in a bar on Tues and the lighting was great for shooting with, I'm possibly going to post some soon.... not sure what section yet but probably people.

marks 2nd comp works nicely for me.

Pobably hard contrast would working nicely in this shot so you can just see the outlined of the glasses, glares and liquids. I think it would make a very effective shot
