P.s I'm only allowed to crop the shots- not allowed to modify them in any other way.

Not sure how they would find out if it wasn't too obvious though.

I'm guessing this is for a competition!?!

What is the title of the competition?

#1 No as the composition is just not there with everything centred.

#3 No as unless something is not showing right on the re sized version here it is not sharp.

2 and 4 have more potential, but 5 for me is just a log without anything imaginative going on re composition/angle.

IMHO:

#1: Even though I'm not as much of a 'rule of thirds' zealot as Mark ([suB]:-)[/suB]), I agree that this doesn't do it for me.

#2: Interesting experiment with depth of field, but that's all it is. I don't know what you want me to look at.

#3: There's just not enough depth of field here.

#4: I think we have a winner! Not only do I think it's the best of these five, I think it's very good on its own.

#5: Nice log, but it can't carry the image all byitself. It takes up 3/4 of the frame, but there's nothing about it that draws my attention.

So, definitely, #4, IMHO.

And good luck.

:blah:Not just rule of thirds (but it is a good starting point for a lot of people), I like creativity, thinking outside of the box.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"Taking shot one as an example, things that I would suggest (if the dof was fixed) would be put some angle on it so the stem leads you in to the image at an angle, shoot in portrait with the stem up the middle, here we just have loads of dead space!!!

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"If all else fails go for the rule of thirds!!!

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"Some good info on composition can be found here http://www.ronbigelow.com/articles/a...p/adv_comp.htm

The only problem I have with #4 (and it is a very minor problem)is that the flower is facing away from the frame instead of toward it. I tried somecrops and think I like this one better. But it is a significant crop, and you may not havemuch resolution left for your entry.

I hope you don't mind me messing with your art.
