Well not as early as I would like - but I managed to get out of bed at 8am and took this shot around 9am (bit of a drive). I was looking into the sun, so couldn't do much without a lens hood (Compact). The shot looks quite washed out in original form so I played with the cropping contrast and then tried B&W - quite pleased with the result...

Do you think I cropped too much off the bottom?

the colour version is better it doent work in black n white, did u by any chance get a zoom shot of footprints across the grass and the golfers cos thats the shot to have, especialy if it was shot portrait orientation and golfers in top 1/3, it wont work the same if u crop that shot as it was taken in wrong possition.......but a nice shot all the same

Nope - didn't see any footprints.

I agree it looks better in Portrait - thanks for that, as for the colour being better than the B&W then I guess we will have to disagree :P:G

I didn't take time to think about the shot - and should have used the thirds rule!

Cheers,

P

i think the B&W is far better than the colour version.

the colour crop has to much uninteresting space both on the top and the bottom of the frame.

the B&W is cropped so that the expanse of the land looks much larger giving the people a more desolate feel. the high contrast makes the fog and the scene as a whole very moody compared to the colour rendition.

I like high contrast and moody so B&W works best for me.

I like the B&W version as well. But to me there is still way too much dead space at the top of the frame. The sky doesn't add anything really and it takes up almost half the frame. Also - clone out the tower.

To me all you need is the tracks, playersand the mist. The sky and tree to the right don't add anything. A pano style crop would be cool and I think would work best since the only points of interest are all in a band. Either way - too much deadspace at top and bottom - even in B&W version.

Yep that's what I was thinking anyway. Just my opinion but I think it really accentuates the mist. What does everyone else think?
