It looks like your horizon is a bit crooked.

Hey Mate. Not a pro at all, but have a few minor suggestions.

The chair on the shoreline is indeed an interesting focal point, however the photo seems a little plain. Maybe you could have tried to vary your shooting position. A shot directly behind and further away would decrease the size of the chair, whilst increased the size of the ocean which would give the ocean visual power over the empty and silhouetted chair. Conversely you could have also gone in closer and taken a shot from down real low to give the chair a domineering position whilst using the lovely ocean blue as a nice blurred background. You could also benefit from using a polarizing lens to give the sky a real kick in visual quality. Lastly, the pic could be improved by having shot it during sunrise or sunset. In your pic the light is quite harsh and although you have a little shadow, some golden light would do the photo a world of good. Otherwise, just cheat with photoshop to brighten the red in the chair and deepen the blue in the ocean, that way you would get some strong colour contrasts.

Hope that helps. If I find an interesting subject to photograph i take heaps of shots from all different angles to see what looks best, its the best way to learn.

Thanks for the tips.

I was using a polarized filter, but it was about 11 a.m. and very bright outside.
