Just bought this Sony a 300 for this trip to Playa del Carmen. I purchased an old minolta 75-200mm lense that seemed to work out not to bad concidering I paid $15.00. I only took 1500 pictures on this trip :? maybe more next time. Now for the hard work of going through them all with the wife.

Sounds so promising really : )

Your picture reminds that the moreone observesgulls the moreone admires their excellence both in form and skills in the air..For example their stretched wing feathers making an almost a semi transparent filmsy line end on the edge! I also liked your framing the subject.

Cheers,

Bahadır

I think you had an amazing deal for $15 and we have all been there with the thousands of photos to edit, I've had 6000 from a gym comp before.... yep, that was painful but it paid for itself

As for the photo, it looks a little soft but that could be purely down to PP so some unsharp mask would fix that.

I think you have done a pretty good job of balancing the exposure so there is good colour in the sky as well as detail in the gull.

As for the framing, this doesn't work so well for me, generally a subject moving into space is more comfortable than something moving out of the frame. Here is what i think would make a nicer composition.

Even though, nice work and would love to see a few more of your 1500 photos.

Mark

Thanks Mark, It does make sense to have the gull moving into the space. It looks much better. Im looking forward to sharing and learning from all of you.

We are looking forward to having you around too. Steve's is an interesting place as it is not the busiest forum and I wouldn't say that we have the best photographers here but what we do have is a pretty knowledgeable and very friendly bunch which is what makes it very different for me to any other forum.

Knowing the theory of havingsomething moving into the frame is fine, but trying to do it is always a challenge so it keeps us all on our toes.

Actually it's often a good idea to provide space to the subject in the direction of the movement. Despite its corner to corner 'chic' diagonal placement in the frame in the original picture which I liked, the gullhad asomewhat reluctant expression to move aheadalso with its head bent tothe left :-)

Great shot, did you use AI SERVO on this i guess you probably did though, yesterday i was out with my camera and it seems like when i don't have a camera on me the Gulls are all over the place, anyway i tend to agree with bahadir on the space to the subject with a picture like this
