Hello...Played around a bit with my new SP565 on Friday. I made my first attempt at a portrait shot. The photo is of my wife. Camera was set to portrait mode, flash off. Exif shows the shot was made at F3.5 with shutter speed of 1/125 and ISO64. I did notice something interesting about this camera...it will sometimes overexpose just a tad more then I would prefer. I had another photo I took where part of the background was the overcast sky. This caused the camera to adjust the shutter speed to 1/160. All other parameters stayed the same. To me, this resulted in more pleasing skin tones and more saturated color. To replicate that image, I tweaked this one in Photoshop Elements 2...I rotated the image 90 degrees, turned down the brightness about 7 points and increased the saturation about 15 points.

As mentioned in the title...this is my first portrait shot (off a human at least, I've taken hundreds of dog photos over the years :-) ). Any comments, suggestions, compliments :-) welcome.

overall a good attempt filled the frame nicely.....when doing a shoulder head shot i personally always try to take the shot at eye/face level of the model i know sometimes this is not possible however on a posed shot you have time to adjust

I agree it's a great first attempt, nice details. But in time you'll want to go to portable lighting to get a really nice 3d effect.
