That's a beauty. A wall hanger.

I really love the colour and exposure, I'm just not sure if the log adds to the overall shot in this situation. I think the background is too stunning to have the log distracting you from it, and I think the log is then up-staged by the rest of the shot.

The log with a less interesting background would work and so would just the scenery however I think the two together work against each other. It's still a well crafted photo and I really would love to have been there, also it's easy for me to sit here and say all these things now after the event and I would still be a happy man to have been able to get this shot.

Is this a HDR or just a single image?

Mark,
Interesting points made on in your critique. I have other shoots of just the lake which I started taking when we first arrived. When that urge to try and be artistic took over and just had to try something different.
No this shot is not an HDR, haven't learn how to do HDR type shots yet.

Thanks for looking and commenting,
Craig

Nothing wrong with experimenting and also what I think is certainly no where near gospel it is just my take on things and all tastes are different.

I'm like you and haven't ventured into HDR so in that case this is a wonderful shot with great colours and contrast.

I enjoy hearing peoples opinons, some I take, some I don't, some I just take just the parts of them that fit me and some I just don't (but don't tell) understand but none ever bother me.
In my job I deal with the government and have become every use to hearing opinons of my work and how I do things. So it was either get use to people giving opions or get my feelings hurt, I don't get hurt feelings.

Beautiful shot. I would like to see more pics of the lake, it is very scenic, unlike our flat land and seashore. Robert
