The nice thing about Photoshop is there are so many ways to skin the cat. I did this another way.

Cool Bynx...but I know photoshop will require a LOT of cat skins to pay for it...

It seems to be mostly the way light is reflecting from the ladder. the bright parts appear larger, probably because they are a bit overexposed and causing bleedover to adjacent pixels. Happens with eyes, too. If that is what you are seeing. Since the diagonal lines of the roof apppear free of jaggies, that is what I' thinking you see.

As others have mentioned, a little negative exposure compensation could help. The washed out look of the hills in the background could also be helped by a polarizing filter. This would give better contrast to the whole scene.
