That's ok, works anyway. Nor do I normally like violating the rule of thumb about avoiding centering what the eye focuses on, but this shot shows that rule is meant to be broken.

i would have probably got a little closer and worked with the texture of the leaf and the water droplets. and maybe angled it to get a little more contrast between the leaf and the surroundings.

on a budget, those little sigma 50 1:1 macros are pretty darn sharp too.

Default Luscius green!

The plant and leaf itself is as sharp as on can get it, IMO - the colors are great, the leaf looks luscius, lush, succulent, sumptuous - you name it! The lighting is great (overcast sky?) The droplets look great to me - a fresh picture.

As for the composition? A really difficult one IMO. What could you do, except plukk off all the rest of the leafes and keep the center one, heart-shaped in forcus, and out-bokhey the stem with f 1.8 - preferably keeping the stem diagonal...

I wouldn't have known any other way as you did, Simon. But its still a good technical picture.

BTW, Simon - once your first born has arrived, your budget will not recover until the 18th birthday. I know, been there, done that - Twice!!

Very nicely done. A tighter crop might work here. (also can work a cheap macro at times )
