Default Retired Lock

Found this old picture I took last year of a lock. Tell me what you think, negative or positive

These kinds of photos almost always benefit from B&W, and your photo is a great example why it works. Good exposure, lots of texture all around, and just enough DOF to keep my eye on the body of the lock without getting distracted with the background.

Only criticism is that the blur at the start of the arc of the lock appears somewhat out of place, as that part of the background and foreground below appear in focus. Was that blur added in post?

Overall, smashing photo!

I concur with Illuminati. Its a nice shot but that out of focus spot is a problem. I think the picture would be more interesting as a part of a group of similar pics being displayed as a group.

Thanks for your words. Unfortunately the out of focus, is definitely the cameras fault. This was taken right when the D60 was bought and not having much experience in Manual Mode, this was taken in Auto and with not much consideration for composing.
Thanks a lot for the critique

acapulco i would consider going back and shooting it again if you can as all the others say it is a good subject or buy yourself the same padlock and let it rust a few year to get it right

or try and clone it a little using the hinge plate not perfect but

a quick 5 min try ?
