Yeah. Pose of mom and baby cheetah is nice, but it lacks punch and the rock is hidding the back leg, etc.

Actually I didn't melt. to me, the photo is over exposed and flat and i just cant see too much detail in the face. Also, i just noticed there is another cheetah cup behind the back leg/rock of the mother... if the photographer was another 5 feet over to the right it would have been a much better picture.
And the out of focus rocks on the foreground keep taking my attention away from the cheetahs.

I guess it's more polite to post our comments here, so we do not influence other people opinions.

You probably don't have the luxury of moving over a few feet while on safari - you take what you can get. On the other, with a Canon 1DMkIII and 400mm lens, this shot should could have been improved a lot by a little pp.

Nailed it there.

A little PP would have made the subject pop out a little, and take away the flat bland feel. I just used unsharp mask, added a little saturation in Y and R, and adjusted the curves a tad.

Edit: On second thought - idk if it's OK to post a modified version of the POTD?

The only thing imo that could have made this better is if the shark and fish were staring at each other nose to nose.
