alas i also did a yellow tinge on your image yesterday after i posted my comments LOL thinking alike the busy'ness come with the boats masts and sail ropes . i think if there wasnt as many boats in the shot it would look great

i find black and white processing very hard to do myself you have to be very careful in which images you choose to convert and edit if doing landscape shots try and make sure if there is plenty of sky in the shot not always possible but there is some interest there like clouds or maybe add some after ? also busy pictures dont work that good unless your are some sort of photoshop genius LOL ive tried black and white myself only a couple of times like i say the subject can be quite a task.

You show through this picture that even something as destroying as a coal mine, seen from an environmental point of view, can give something good. Well at least it looks like an old coal mine.
The orton effect has really given this picture character and added an eerie tone. And as you also pointed out, the clouds play an important role.
Thank you for sharing this picture, it has given me inspiration for a couple of pictures I have.
