Default Glow - Is it Magic?

When I got this back from the developers I was most surprised. I knew it was probably going to at least come out right but I had no idea it would be like, glowy, or whatever. Not exactly sure how it came out like this, maybe one of the gurus out there can enlighten me. Aperture was wide open @ 3.8, bellows was fully extended, no flash. Maybe it was just a stray ray of light or inverse square law, dunno. Anyway, was delightfully surprised.

It's over exposed, which can be seen by the blown highlights of the yellow center.

Hey, sometimes people deliberately over or under expose an image for some reason of their own. Sometimes it works...

The center is a tad overexposed, but by having the flower brightly lit, and b/g darker, it does give a definite 'pop' to the picture. The focus on the flower, with shallow depth of field emphasizes the subject and gives it almost a 3d effect.

Mine included.

Ordo.

Please see the forum guidelines, particularly the part about constructive criticism. It is perfectly acceptable to not like a photograph, and it is ok to say that a photograph doesn't work for you. but you must give it a qualifier, i.e. what you didn't like, what you see could be improved, etc.

i.e. the background is busy and it's too centered making this shot not really work for me

but as worded it is unreasonably harsh and not constructive.
