Default Return to the Earth

Here is a picture of a leaf that I captured on my first outing with my new Nikon D3000. Please provide feedback. Thanks!

well first thing is there is not enough DoF. secondly its cropped a little too tightly. and its just a little lacking in contrast.

i think had it contrasted better with the surroundings and was pulled back enough to give it a little more context, it could have worked out a little better.

that said, it is great to see you looking for these little details in the world. sometimes they make for some fantastic photographs. one of my favorite shots i have taken is actually a leaf that had fell from a tree to my deck. the colors contrasted so well and i was able to use the lines of the deck to lead in and out. so keeping an eye out for these little details can work out nicely.
