Default Would like some critiques

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum, and have this photo that I'd like to have critiqued, I'd love to now what you think.

I love the movement from the wings! The bees head is a little soft and flower lacks some contrast or definition. I think I might like it better without the flower. Great timing though, really cool shot.

I would be shooting way lower than f16

try f56.6 and a lower iso and higher shutter?

You mean F5.6 right? F56.6 would be a little crazy I thought it would be better to shoot at f16 cuz I needed a wider depth of field, but yea, high ISO made it a little grainy. Thanks for your input!

I shoot lots of my macro at f11 - f18, so I would have done the same thing you did. Shooting at f5.6 might have worked out all right, but I'm not so sure I would have liked it as well - the flower would have been even more OOF and featureless - I would think that would be more of a distraction than the soft flower you have, but maybe not. The neat thing about digital is you can experiment with something like that and see how it looks. The bee came out quite well in this one, while it would have been better if the head was in focus, it's not distracting to me that it isn't, and the wings are what catch the eye.

I agree about liking the wing movement combined with the be hovering. Hummingbird-like. I'd just pretend the grain was pollen.

Yea, actuality these bees did have lots of pollen on them. I think I would have had more success if there was more sun that day..
