Default Through the Fence

Hi, I am looking for feedback on this photo of my neighbors dog Jet . I was in the back yard with my dog and Jet, who is a little under a year old, likes to keep an eye on what's going on in my yard. I took this as she was eyeing us through the fence.

Please give any feedback you'd like about the composition, subject or any aspect of this photo.
Thanks for looking, Steve

I find the composition, textures, and idea all delightful. I think it's a thoroughly charming photo. ETA: The lighting is surprisingly good for a photo like this. That's the biggest technical surprise to me in this pic.

Thanks for your feedback.
This is another shot I was considering. The fence is not as clear but, maybe that isn't so important.
Critique away if you wish.

Cheers, Steve

They are a couple really cool pics. Its a shot like this that makes me appreciate the intelligence of other animals. In spite of what people in general think, animals have intelligence. And your shots here show their curiosity.

Personally, I much prefer the first photo. Having both fence and dog in reasonable focus seems right to me on this. In addition, the way that the hook on the knothole focuses attention on the dog's eye makes dog and fence seem visually much more of a single unit. Both pics are cool, but the first is artistically by far the better photo by my lights. FWIW

Bynx, I couldn't agree with you more. Human intelligence is highly over rated most of the time, in my opinion. Thanks for the feedback, Steve

Thank you for the your in-depth assessment of the two photos. I have to admit that I, too, prefer the first photo. I think it offers more intrigue. I find that the off center alignment of the animal just makes for a more interesting picture IMO.

Thanks again, Steve
