The last edit looks real to me and does make the bird stand out from the background.

In Photoshop -- Gaussian Blur -- Lens Blur. Its not so much the blur I used but getting a good selection of the bird. If you notice when you did your original selection some of the darker shadow areas in the pebble texture got picked up and seen as part of the birds outline. So in areas like around the breast it made the outline look lumpy.

Yes i was able to make out the difference now.... For me - Photography and photo editing both are to be learned []
