Default Countryside Evening

Hi everyone, I just wonder what crop vertical or horizontal is better for this shot. Also is it better to leave leafs and tree brunches (as I wanted to create picture with more cozy feeling) or shot without them is better. I appreciate any critique or comments.

The first crop shows a lot of empty space, while the second fills the frame with more subject matter. The nearby branches gives the viewer a sense of what is going on from that vantage point, but if not to eveyone's liking one could photoshop the branches out. I'd like to see a landscape crop with roughly the land view present in the first photo - no branches, and an interesting island behind the farm structures.

I agree with Jim...Way to much empty sky in the first one...That for me takes away from the whole photo...The tree branches in the foreground does add to the shot...Kinda frames the whole thing...The orientation of the photo, Landscape, probably means just that...The first one, Portrait, would be good if you isolated the farm house or grouping of trees just behind the houses...Looks like a nice peaceful place to live...

If there was the full moon in the sky then it might justify there being so much sky, but since its so empty its all not necessary. Your horizontal treatment is much better. The branches frame it nicely but unfortunately the branches on the left are way out of focus. They could be replaced with some in focus and it would finish off the pic very nicely.

i would go back and shoot again if possible i would have liked to see your first shot in landscape rather than portrait .... this would include more to the right when viewing as i can tell from your second shot there is not much happening left of the farm house so i would crop it just after the cyclist or hiker maybe at the recess in the trees and include more river or lake from the right handside.............. a lovely location btw

Thanks every one for your replies, I really appreciate it. My mistake was, that I’ve made too little photos to choose from. I’m thinking, as simple suggested, to go there to make some more pictures.

I feel your pain. I too often regret not taking more. Not better or anything special. Just more.
