I much prefer the original myself. good skin tones, yet the sky and flower are still plenty saturated.

Yeah....the original. Her blouse pretty much steals the color in the composition. You could try bringing up the green and yellow a few degrees, without giving her skin an over-saturated look.

I would categorize all the variants off the original as a attempt at achieving a posterized look. Numbers 2 & 4 appear to just be lesser forms (intensities?) of the applied effect on the original. However, ordinarily 2 & 4 are considered too washed out. The basis is to ask which of the available choices would you expect to be selected for presentation in a magazine? In general, selected photos will need to have some "bite" to them to be considered sufficiently interesting.

In the world of music, the analogy would be "lacks sufficient dynamic range".

I like the first shot. I occassionally use the more agressive filters to pull detail into view, but mostly not.
