Well Im glad to see EVERYONE is in agreement that you like #1. I just dont see it at all, but then thats JUST ME isnt it. Sometimes I question the things I do. But in this case there is no question. I just dont figure you guys. Id like to know what it is that made Eddies original angular shot so popular. And Eddie was that the way you shot it or presented it?

Bynx-

To me, the angle gives an impression of reality. Do flowers face 90 degree vertical? As the stem is missing, it looks like 'presented'. You did what you felt right and that's absolutely ok. Nobody said yours bad, they compared the two and preferred the angular one.

It's become a 2-page discussion - but Eddie never wrote back.

Oh sorry to be such recluse gang....me bad.
I'll share my intent, and you guys decide amongst yerselves......

The flower was posed in such a way for a couple of reasons, lighting being one of them. I used one main light source and bounced a more subtle effect to give the nooks and crannies some exposure.
I had camera level and positioned the camera accordingly. I feel by doing this it reduces the harshness of the corners and gives some leeway with matting and framing, an art in itself (framing and displaying pictures).
I chose not to stem, for it looks for the most part, out of place on tight shots. If I wanted a stem, I'd most likely have composed in portrait format and used the stem as another element, especially so if it sported petals and such.
Thanks all and I'm happy this shot stirred as interesting exchange....I think we ALL learn for this dialog, thanks again!

I just think that without a stem the flower is just floating in the black. The angle doesnt follow the laws of gravity so without a stem to hold it up I think it should be lying flat. But thats just how I see it. Obviously Im missing something.

Dude....you're wearing an all black outfit in front of an all back background, and you lecture me about what seems to be floating

The flower as in # 1 seems to be floating from mid air as if it was floating downward
while the #2 shot reminds me more of a lilly pad flower which are white so makes not sense but yet it does draw a feeling... so both Eddie....put a flower for your Avatar and see what happens.... I was picturing Eddie a a man with a basket in a field of daisies.... the basket being lunch!
