Default Got a new lens to play with

Hi all,
Took this today and I like it but it looks soft to me.
I have 14 days to play with this lens so will be taking a few more shots.

Your thoughts are welcome and requested.

it looks a shade soft, but there is no exif data on the photo. so i can't tell if its a shutter speed problem. was it handheld? was it windy?

I would say too little DOF making it look soft. Get it closed down to say f8 at least and go for it again. I think you will be having some fun with this lens.

yea, at 70mm at 2.8 at this distance, dof going to be small.

i would take this out for a more extensive test before making any conclusion on sharpness.

i expect good things, that is a nice lens.

Thanks Mark and Hards,
I have a couple of weeks to play with the lens so a lot of testing will be done.
I was looking at the Zeiss 24-70 and thought for half the money, I will try this one first.

Default Todays shots

These are at f16 & f8
No mods at all, straight out of the camera and resized for posting.
Thanks for looking.

The second two look much better. The lens looks like it does well stopped down (like most lenses). Flowers rarely work well at really large apertures. As you get closer you need more dof. I very much like the first of this set.

Thanks mtngal, it is one of my all time favorites. Fresh emerging bloom right after a lite shower of rain.
