Default Down to Earth

Critique this one please. Is it good enough to enter the "Photo of the Day" contest?

OK, due to several that called this a "fake" or "pasted-in" I included the original, just resized to fit here.
As you can see the background is dark because of the tree/bush and the Scrub Jay is back-lite from the sun directly behind it.
I did crop about 50%, some sharpening and a little highlighting to bring out the right side of birds face.
I re-sampled to fit 8x10.

Ok, after post #27 with the suggestions, I came up with this one, which is between the two above ^^^^^^^

Definitely a well-timed shot. I'd think you should enter it.

Well timed shot taking both skill and luck. Enter the POTD contest but as you well know, what the judges think about it is widely open to speculation. What kind of bird is that?

Nice timing, but the overal rendition makes it look artificial...just MHO!

Please explain... there was very little Photoshop done other than some sharpening and some contrast. The background was a large bush that was in the shade...
