Default My bride & hopefully my best work ever

For the first time, since I've been posting here, I am nervous.

I think this is good work. But you write my report card, not me.

I'll be disappointed if you're not seeing progress in my work. But that's not your fault, it's mine.

The newest element is that I'm shooting indoors, using off camera Speedlite shot using a shoot thru umbrella. So some of this is new territory for me. Trying to catch light in the right place, etc.

As always, please bring your criticism and help me get better. Please be specific when possible.

Again, thanks for helping me improve as a photographer.

This much is for sure, the subject, (my bride of 17 years) is not responsible for any the problems you see. All those a result of the photographer, not the subject.

Faithfully yours,
FP

I like #1 and #2 best of all. However, #1 needs a tighter crop and a bit better lighting on the face. #2 really shows personality. Nice series.

The lighting is excellent, poses likewise. The only thing I find wrong, is in number 4, where there is a rather abrupt blur line on the right. I might possibly crop a bit of the dead space in the left side of photo 1, as well, but that's my personal taste. Well done photos of a lovely woman. From me, you wouldn't get a report card, but a diploma. brian

IMhO you might need more light...

Bynx noticed this as you don't have much details in the shadow areas for #1 and #4.

As for the other closeups, the speedlite may be set to the zoom mode behind the umbrella (or placed too close), as the fall-off is bit abrupt and the subject's face is too bright in relation to her hair or sweater.
May be again this is the effects you're after, but this is just my opinion
(i.e. a bit more highlight on your wife hair or sweater would improve the images)

Default Photo #1 brightened and cropped

This is photo #1 cropped a bit tighter to the face and brightened up a bit.

Do you like it better than the #1?

Thanks!

I do. Much better. I will add that your bride's make up may not be helping. Very strong an contrasted colors on a full of caracther face.
