Default Morning Glory

I took this earlier this spring with the 18 - 55mm lens that came with my Pentax K-x. I've taken probably just a couple of hundred photos with the k-x and I think this is one of my favorites. What do you think?

I like this shot, I have taken several shots of flowers as well. I really like your use of DOF getting ride of background and keeping a little of foreground. But camera seems a little soft around edge of flower. But Good shot

What do you mean by soft? I am not all that knowlegable about photography but I was trying to get the background really blurry. I will try to post what my camera's settings when I get home but what happend with the photo was that part of the flower is in focus and around the edges, in places, are out of focus. What do you think I could do to correct that next time?

actually come to think of it I don't have the image in my camera anymore. I uploaded it to my mac. Does anyone know if I can still see the camera settings after they have been loaded onto a computer? I am using apple's default photo album software that came with the computer.

Very nice pic...!

I have no knowledge of Mac's but with windows if you right click the image file
and choose "Properties" and then choose the "Details" tab it will show all the
EXIF data for the image...

Maybe Mac's will do something similar...?

"Soft" means just a touch out of focus (OOF)... If you were using a very large
aperture (Small F-number) your "Depth of Field" (DOF) would be really shallow
and may put some parts of the subject slightly OOF...

Here's a nice interactive site that lets you play with aperture, shutter and ISO
settings to see what they do... Click the box that says, "link aperture/shutter"
and then move the aperture slider back and forth to see what different apertures
do regarding DOF...

http://www.kamerasimulator.se/eng/?page_id=2

Here's another good site with a tutorial about DOF...

http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tut...h-of-field.htm

Hope something there helps...

well said wizard. Trihame please dont get discouraged by my comment, I only point it out because sometimes its the little things that people dont notice but really want. I am also a newbie at takeing pictures and have a lot to learn. I can also tell you that utilizing any software you have for the camera and on your computer can make all the difference in a good shot and bad one. I have seen people on this website take a picture I thought was one of my best and make it look better with just a change here or there. Just keep trying. most importantly do what works for you, and have fun!

I like this one as well...I am a sucker for flowers anyway, but I have to add my little 2 cents worth here...The shot to me looks a bit flat...Try bumping up the contrast and saturation...Add just a bit of lightness to...With your dof, make this flower stand out even more with the brighter colors from the saturation....
My opion of course...
