To me the crop is too tight. A little more visibiity on the face of the elder would have worked well for me.

Or....if Pa woulda had his eyes open like Tadpole does, then I think the tight crop would work, as the relationship of your title would have validity....or sumtin like that?

Thanks Eddie, always looking for good advice. The sun was shining from his right which explains why he kind of squinted. There was so much going on around that any larger crop would have had a bunch of distracting elements that did nothing for the photo. Oh well, since I don't usually do this kind of shoot, I was supprised it came out as well as it did. Thanks you guys for commenting! Frank

personally, i like the composition of the shot. The hat on the older guy should have been out of the frame though. I don't like the noise that is especially visible on and around the child's eyes. A smoother out of focus look would be nicer IMO.

Thanks Eric for your comment. As you can see though taking the hat out would have cut more off the childs forehead and eyes so could not do it. Nice of you to comment though, Cheers and Happy holidays!!!!Frank

actually in my mind, i was thinking "should have taken the hat off" not "crop closer".
But im not sure if this photo was a candid, or a studio, so it may not have been possible.

Yeah as it was candid, never occured to me to ask this guy to take off his hat for the photo LOL It was actually a street shot taken during a parade, and I did not know the guy. The noise around the childs eyes are of course due a lot to my posting the pic here directly from the computer. I will try harder to think some of my shots through, I am always so impatient when I get a camera in my hands. Thanks again, Frank
