Reek, I think you may be just a tad out of focus. Did you do this by hand or was it some auto function on your camera? Your wife is a beautiful model, and the colors are fine enough, but you must have something off on the focus....Frank

What camera are you shooting and what lens did you use?

When taking a photo of just one person, I have learned that using only 1 focal point (usually the larger of her two eyes) is the #1 element to have in sharp focus.

Second, my hands are not very steady. So if I have to hand hold (rather than use a tripod) 1/250 of a second (or faster) keeps me away from camera shake.

Tell us about your equipment and I'll bet there's a bunch of folks here who can help make your next shot better than your last one. They really know their stuff!

Faithfully Yours,
FP

Reek, I will agree with both Frank and FP, and add my own bit of "advice". Had I taken that shot. I would have been on one or both knees (no implied humor here), to shoot UP at her, rather than DOWN at her. Try that and see how you like it. Point being, I always try to shoot at the same level as my "target".

I included a sample. For this shot, I sat on my butt on the floor to get down to her level. Had I shot this from above, it would not have near the impact.

Thank you FP and HW for your tips. I will try out the eye thing see how it turns out next time. I was shooting with a k-x and with the kit 50-200mm lens.
