1st shot:
the horizon is way off, and the building on the right is a bit distracting. The telephone pole and power lines/street sign detract from the mood in my opinion.

2nd shot.
of the two, i like this one better. But, i really dont like the flash that was used. It really washes out the building and the foreground (flowerboxes/lights). Also, i'd crop out the railing at the bottom of the photo.

The second shot is better. The first shot includes a pole on the left hand side that is leaning over quite a bit - I recognize this from my attempts as shooting wide open where distortion is maximum. As Ewheeler suggested, the fill flash in the second photo overexposed the planter boxes and distracts from the beauty of the building. Given the building lights, a person might be forced into an HDR style photo to obtain the correct level of illumination, or try for a golden hour shot if there aren't any shadows on the building front.

The second shot is definitely the better of the two. I agree w/all the above comments. Re: the overexposed planter boxes ... their color, in particular, clashes w/the color of the bldg. The picture feels like several pieces put together instead of one 'whole' piece. Give it another go, tho ... It's a great facade to keep working at!

Hi, JMO, I think that these were taken to late at night, it's just to dark in the background, if it was me I think before the last light of the day is just going would be a better time.
Russ.
