Lotus flowers open each morning and face the sun.

I see blown highlights on my monitor...white is a tough color to expose.

Yep. And somewhat out of focus.

On the petals, tips of the stalks that surround the yellow center, or both?

My intent was to have the 5 petals in the top and top right of the photo in focus. My eyes aren't as young as they used to be, but those appear to be in focus to me. Do they to you?

Ordo Apr 11, 2011 8:58 AM

Not really. Wasn't pistils more important to get in focus?

Not for the image I was trying to do. Most images of lotus flowers (including most of mine) are shot in the shade, the better to capture their delicate aspects. http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...thailand+lotus

I've been trying to capture what I describe as the 'liquid yellow center' of a white lotus facing the morning sun. I have to shoot from the side because shooting straight into it means the camera is blocking the sun. Focusing on the far petals produced the best 'liquid center with sun glint highlights' I wanted.

good framing, seems a bit bright in the center but nice job!
