Default Acorns in a Pine Tree...What tha???

While camping in the mountains a few days ago my wife and I saw several pine trees with acorns stuck inside their trunks. Appeared to be convenient and handy winter storage for the squirrels. Ever seen that???

First pic is excellent. I've never seen this myself but have heard of it - try a search on 'Acorn Woodpecker'
