Default Standing on the jetty (pier)

Hello C&C friends

On Saturday I went to Port Adelaide (South Australia) to take some photographs with some friends, and mainly to give some 'tutition' about photography to a few of them who are new to the world of photos, composition, etc.

Here was one of the photos I took, (between giving people thought / feedback on their photos, and help on how to use their cameras / settings).

So I would appreciate your feedback, comments and constructive critique on this photo of mine... please

I posted this photo on facebook, and a number of facebook friends seemed to really like this - I think the power of the desserted jetty, and the light and empty seat, add to a reasonably strong composition... and of course maybe the 'summer feeling' (we're in winter here!) help!

Looking forward to your replies.

Paul

I like it! I think it's a very good composition. Very clean and uncluttered! You're not exactly centered, but I think the lamp makes up the difference!

I love it! The Perspective is Awesome! It looks like the pier goes on forever!

Hi JeannieBug

Thanks for your comment. When you write "it is not exactly centred", do you mean vertically or horizontally?

When I composed it I tried to get it quite close to centred vertically - that is for the pier to be half way between left and right. I could be a bit out that way.

Or if you mean horiztonally, I wanted more sky on purpose (following the 'guide of thirds' here).

I'm glad you wrote that it's 'very clean and uncluttered' - that was the look I was wanting... and I feel the empty chair and simple lamp post balance it well.

Thanks again,

Paul

Hi Dick

I am glad you love the photo, and appreciate the perspective.

Indeed, as I used an ultra wide angle focal length - 10mm Sigma on my 7D (16mm in 35mm format), it gives a strong emphasisis to that vanishing point.

Have a good day!

Paul

Love all the elements in this composition. The jetty certainly leads the eye out into the ocean.

I did mean vertically, but I'm probably the only person who would notice (because I'm weird like that!)

But I love the shot! I think it's really great!

@Banksy - thanks for complimenting the composition

@JeannineBug - I appreciate you explaining what you mean, and again your kind words.

@jelpee - Cheers! I'm also glad you like it. Have a great day.

Paul,

This is a great capture! Sky is nice and strong. Symmetry with a bit of balanced elements.

Take care, Glen
