Default Bit of bark on green grass

Hello Critique friends

I was in Perth, Western Australia - the other weekend (visiting a number of friends). I'm from Adelaide, South Australia. Between Adelaide and Perth - both share a Mediterranean climate, have a reasonably similar population size, but there are a few other differences (and they're about 3000km apart).

Anyway, while there - early on the Saturday morning I went for a lovely long walk along the river, into Kings Park and through the city. Here was one of my fav photos... but I'm not sure if it 'cuts it' for everyone.

Quite simply, it's a piece of bark (off a gum tree) that was lying in some VERY green grass. The piece of bark is similar to that I see in Adelaide at this time of the year (in fact, I might have the same species of gum in my front yard!) The light when I took the photo was diffused (thin morning cloud) so there were no harsh shadows - but the amount of daylight was bright enough to make the colours quite vibrant.

What do you think? Is the image powerful for you? Or is it boring / uninteresting? I like the simple form of the bark (and random leaves) - contrasting against the grass... but it might not be to everyone's taste... or not 'speak' in the same way...

I value your feedback / thoughts. Looking forward to your comments.

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

of course I like this bark photo, the bark looks nearly with the different colour nuances, like a bark painting, and I also like the contrast with the grass, which looks a lovely green, did it rain over there recently?

As I wrote in another post, I live in Adelaide too, but see now more and more brown grass.

I have been to Perth several times too, and I love it over there.

Hi Griddi (fellow Adelaidean)

Yes, the reason why I took this photo was mainly the contrast of the colours (brown / red-hue bark vs bright green grass).

The grass was so green because it was in a park (Kings Park) that was watered regularly. Most other parts of Perth the grass was not so green.

Just like Adelaide, some parks get well watered and the grass looks great - meanwhile, other parts are more brown in warm weather.

Regards

Paul
