Default A Doily Photo

Hi All,

I've been trying to increase the interest in the photos of my various crafts. I've been playing with different depths of field, angles, lighting, etc.

This is an example of one of the photos:

The only changes I made are MINIMAL cropping and resizing. No color/brightness changes made.

My light source is a window (object sitting right next to the window) on an overcast day.

I would appreciate any comments on post-processing that might help, composition, DOF, etc.

Thank you!

Its not a bad photo but it is just a photo of a doily and i struggle to see much else in it.

I would try and make this more than just a photo of a doily.

eg. Black and white, backlight by harsh sunlight, on a branch with some leaves arranged to look like a spider on its web. You could have fun with it.

If you want to take a picture of the doily being a doily then my critique would be:
Image feels flat. needs better light source.
Needs contrast and color boosting.
Needs a better display of the doily, something interesting and eye catching.

I do like the focus and DOF. both are spot on.

Hope thats not too harsh.

Not harsh at all! Thank you so much for the feedback! I really appreciate it. Very helpful! Next time, I'll wait until the sun is shining to take my pictures! The colors are fairly accurate, but a better light source would probably help them stand out a bit more (and hopefully that will help with contrast too!)

Yes, I want it to be a picture of a doily being a doily. The purpose of the photos is to show off my handiwork, rather than be artistic. That said, however, I want the photos to be somewhat interesting (rather than just a dull photo with a doily in the center of the frame). Know what I mean?

Thanks again!

I quite like the idea- nice composition/angle/focus point etc...
I'd just tweak the saturation and lighting a bit..
