Default Stompin' in the New Year

I went to Orange, MA's New Year's Eve celebration. One of the bands was Zoe Darrow and the Fiddleheads, a bluegrass group that really got the kids stomping up a storm at the front of the hall. I was hoping to capture the feel of the shindig, but the lighting was really tough. Here are some of my attempts, for C&C. I would especially appreciate suggestions on how I might do better under these conditions next time.

they are nice shots, and capture the moment, but and im not being nasty here, this is constructive critique, they look like snapshots.

Ideally you would have walked around for a good vantage point of the band, without people in the way, got some closeups right up at the stage of the guys doing their thing.

Great memory shots, but they need a little more effort in composition to make them thie kind of thing you print.

Apologies of that sounds harsh.

No, I don't find it harsh, just off-target. I was looking for something with more of a snapshot vibe, if you like. I took some pics more like you would like, but they were not what I was after. Perhaps you would prefer the below shot, but I am interested in insight about improving what I was after, FWIW.
