I agree - it's a distinct improvement.

In light of what the app can do for animal fur I'm going to try it on a portrait of a young woman with long hair or maybe a long haired Hippy.

The dog picture was a good deal better for being tweaked. But then I hesitated to try the program on a living person. However, one of Walt Whitman seemed to be a suitable candidate.

The result seems to indicate that results on dogs tend to be considerably better....

It seems if you have the original pic as your base, and have a layer on top to apply the filter to, then for the face you can erase the top layer showing through the lower layer with good facial detail. The hair on the top layer looks good like this. It seems you are also not getting any highlights. There should be blacks, grays and whites. Try putting the final image through a brighten/contrast filter. Other than that I like the potential here.
