hey dude

a couple things for these..
the first is my favorite...the flower is angled, and set to 'look' into the photo...and the background is nice...

the one with fill flash (the second?)..the flash is too harsh...and it would be better to have side lighting with the flower. that way you get more detail, and the shadows work with you...

i like the water one, but it looks like a studio shot, so would probably work better if it were backed up a bit, maybe a tall vertical in a vase..

oh, btw..the first would be great, but it seems a bit soft (as does the last one)
what are you shooting with?

i like your idea of the sky as the background..keep that idea going

keep shooting bro

Thanks for the comments. Each image is an attempt to improve over the previous image. The softness of the first one was simply bad photography, but the softness of the last is intentional. Some of the softness is due to the way I lighted it.

I used both Nikon D100 and D2X with Nikkor - 60MM F/2.8D lens. I'm not comfortable with the D2X yet so I shot each with both cameras. I'll have to look at the files to see which camera each image come from.

Attempt #4 after suggestions from previous attempts. Any suggestions?

**Warning - I'm already setting up for attempt #5**

Was a fill flash used in #4? Looks bright. (haha, that's about as technical as I get!)

No flash was used on any of the shots. I did manipulate the available light, however.

I think you are on the right track. However each image looks to "manipulated" to me. I think the first one has the most natural look to it, which is what my eye looks for when it comes to flowers.

Nice job with the series. Keep it up.

Hello Ryan,

There really isn't much post capture manipulation here. On the last image, I sharpened to the max and then applied some noise reduction in Nikon Capture 4. I sized, cropped and framed in PS. This was more of a learning exercise than an attempt to render a fabulous image.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
