This old gas sign is in my neighbor's backyard. I wanted to create a scene reminiscent of the past. We will truly never see these prices again!

Since your intended center of interest is the sign, you may have a more effective image if you shoot it at a time of day when the sun is hitting the sign.

Are you saying like when the midday sun is hitting the sign? I like that idea. Would you recommend that I shoot the picture in sepia or color? Thanks for your help Rodney.

Probably a time of day when you'll have more directiona light will be better. You have directional light here, but it is from the opposite direction so the sign isn't in the light.

Remember the rule of thirds mentioned on your plane post. If you walk into a large room, you will by instinct look around the boundaries(walls). The same thing happens when looking at a picture, so the logical placement of your subject is near an area we will instinctively look at.
