I am rather new to photography and really enjoy taking close-up pictures of my kids. I am in the process of buying a d-slr so I am still using a p & s.Having a little trouble getting the little ones to stay still long enough for the slow camera. This is one ofthe betters shots.

I cropped it down A LOT. Please let me know whatyou think of it or what could make it better.

Thanks!

Rob

Definitely a good shot. But if you cropped it, I would like to see more of the hair, b/c honestly, I can't tell if it is a boy or a girl. By the title I am assuming it is a little girl.

You are right. She is a girl. Her hair was a mess and the shot was taken in the living room so you won't be impressed by the original photo. I will try to post it so others can change it too if they want.

Thanks.

Hi neekak9,

You have a great subject there

Here is another crop (given comments from others on this thread) with a slight bump in contrast to"obscure" the objects in the background.

I like that digcamfan. Makes her look a little more like a girl.

I will try to post more pictures of her again next weekend. I appreciate your take on it.

Thanks.

She is a real cutie, for sure. Very nice expression. Congrats on getting the photo.

I agree that the background is the only real problem in this pic. I used the clone tool to even it out, then blurred and used a soft spot filter to further reduce b/g. cropped a little of the open space on left, and added a touch of grain. ( I used to shoot exclusively with Tri-X, and B/W pictures without grain look wrong to me)

Rob..I really like this crop of the head. The others are great too. I guess I am just partial to close ups. Thanks for sharing.

You might try cropping, removing the background and rotating the image about 30 degrees to the left. The angle of the head is awkward.

If you are attempting to render a visually effective image, then you had it right with the first cropped version.

If you can edit a catch light on the left eye, it will work better.
