NOT BAD FOR A FIRST TIME INDEED!!!! Well done... Too close for MY comfort, I'm not allergic or anything, but DON'T like being stung. I'll be anxious to see more as they come.

Wouldn't be bad forsomebody's 1000th time!

Curious of your technique on this one. Did youuse flashwith afast shutter speed and small f/stopto achieve yourdarkened background?Very nice.

Thomas.

hey guys

thanks for looking!

well, the technique was, there was no technique!

no i'm just messin' with ya
i didn't use flash...i just had it set at f/7.1 and a shutter somewhere around 1/500...and the lighting that i had did the rest...
it was these little purple bunches of flowers (grape hyacinth ) and behind them were bushes...
this was in a large circle...with the bushes running in a circle, and a row of these flowers in a larger circle outside them...
anyway, the sun was shining just barely over the bushes onto these...but missing the bush..
so that's why the bg is dark

thanks for looking!

Let's assume this was not a lucky try. I saw some great pics of bees in flight much like this one and it inspired me to try. I chased bees all over the place...well, crept after them in the flower bed anyway. It's a little late tonight but I am tempted to show some of my better tries. None as good as this one. I laughed when I saw your comments. YA... N O T B A D at all for a first try. And I agree with whoever said..ok for a 1000th try too. These guys don't get paid for posing and their priority is get to the flower, oops...switch...maybe that flower instead...nope...and on and on it seemed for me. Well done. Best regards,

KennethD

well, in a way it was lucky..but there was a bit of observing..to see his flight patterns after he leaves the flower..
and, i was using a 300mm lens...so i didn't have to be particularly close :-D

thanks for looking!

Even more impressive that you were using a 300mm lens.

Handheld even.

well, that's probably the downfall..the handheld leaves a bit of blur..
probably from the intense excitement at smashing the shutter down when he flew out

a tripod would help that...but wouldn't be as convenient in following him around..
